Kolkata: The global Covid-19 pandemic has shown the world the important role that nurses play in keeping people healthy and positive. International Nurses Day is celebrated across the world on May 12 every year, Florence Nightingale’s birth anniversary. Narayan Memorial Hospital commemorated this important day on Thursday to lift the sagging spirits of the nurses in a fun-filled evening, making the nurses participate in games, skits poetry sessions and singing.

Suparna Sengupta, CEO, Narayan Memorial Hospital said, “The pandemic has given us the opportunity to explore new models of care, where nurses are at the centre of our health systems. We can only achieve this vision of new caregiving by generating new policies that are going to pave the way for new standards in health care.” She further added: “The nurses, who have worked selflessly will not go empty-handed. We are recognizing their work and as a result introducing welfare programs, which will be introduced in our hospital to encourage and rejuvenate them to take the servicing standards few notches higher.

Speaking on the occasion, Nursing Superintendent, Mousumi Maiti said, “We are happy when we see that our efforts are getting rewarded. This will definitely help us to raise our standard at work and save lives. However, when we work, our sole goal is to save lives and see happy patient faces when home-bound. All of us have worked hard and happy to see my talented colleagues unwind and enjoy an evening of pure fun and pure enjoyment.”
