Kolkata: The Covid restrictions imposed in West Bengal will continue for another 15 days, starting from June 1, Mamata Banerjee announced on Thursday. The state has been under complete lockdown since May 15 to May 31. She will review the situation again on June 15, she added.

“Though the infection rate has come down, the state government has decided to continue with the restrictions for another 15 days. We are thankful to the people for cooperating with us. We have started getting good results but I urge the people to bear the hardship for a little longer. We will review the situation on June 15 and then decide the next course of action,” the CM said.
She, however, said she prefers not to call it lockdown but Covid restrictions. But she has announced some relaxations for the jute and construction workers. “There have been several requests from Punjab so we have decided to increase the workforce in the jute industry from 30 per cent to 40 per cent. However, they will have to adhere to all the Covid norms. The construction workers can also go to work provided they have been vaccinated. It is the responsibility of the employers to vaccinate their employees from private places,” the chief minister said.
“The rest of the conditions, as declared before, will prevail,” she added.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced that the Higher Secondary examination will be held in the last week of July while Madhyamik exams will be held in the second week of August.
