Kolkata: In view of the potential threats to them all the newly elected 77 BJP MLAs in West Bengal are being given security cover by the central paramilitary forces, official sources have said. The MLAs will get armed commandos of the CISF and the CRPF for security. The Union Home Ministry approved the cover after taking into account a central security agencies report and inputs from a high-level fact finding team of officers that was sent to the state by the ministry after post-poll violence in the state.
While 61 MLAs out of the 77 will be entitled to “X”
category coverage, the rest will be under “Y” category. Some of the latter are
also under the central security cover.
The Leader of Opposition, Suvendhu Adhikari is
already getting protection under “Z” category of the Central Reserve Police
Force (CRPF),
Under the “X” category there are 3 to 4 armed
commandos, under “Y” category there are 6 to 7 commandos while under “Z” category
the number of commandos protecting the individual can be as many as 9.
Both the CISF and the CRPF have specialised VIP
security units in their establishment, collectively providing security to over
140 personalities, which include central ministers, MPs and senior bureaucrats.
