New Delhi/Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation has moved the Supreme Court challenging a Calcutta High Court order allowing the house arrest of Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee, on Monday in the Narada sting operation case. The CBI appealed to move the case outside West Bengal and sought cancellation of Monday’s Calcutta High Court's hearing, in the newly formed five-member bench.
Hearing has started in Calcutta High Court’s newly formed bench. On
Friday, a five-member bench had been constituted which included acting Chief
Justice Rajesh Bindal, and justices I.P. Mukerji, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen and
Arijit Banerjee.
The Narada case hearing to vacate the stay on bail of the four political
leaders was scheduled to take place at 11 am in Calcutta High Court on Monday.
But the CBI appealed to the Calcutta High Court to cancel the hearing.
The matter was referred to the five-judge bench on Friday after
differences of opinion by Justice Arijit Banerjee and Acting Chief Justice
Rajesh Bindal of the High Court division bench.
TMC minister and
Kolkata Municipal Corporation Chairperson Firhad Hakim was sent to house arrest
on Friday night while on Saturday former Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee was
released from hospital and kept under house arrest. Two other leaders, TMC minister
Subrata Mukherjee and TMC MLA Madan Mitra were still under treatment at SSKM
hospital.
