When a film comes out from Aditya Dhar’s stable, one immediately is
under the impression that the film will be different in all aspects. Same is
the case of Baramulla which is unique in the sense that it is totally different
that one has never seen.
Director Aditya Suhas Jambhale makes a gripping film that keeps you hooked right till the last frame. He infuses sub-plots which has the disappearance of kids, horror, terrorist attacks and a harrowing flashback. Another plus is that the whole set up is in Kashmir which takes it a notch higher than what we have witnessed in other films. He keeps the film in check with the runtime. He is also credited for the story along with Aditya Dhar thus elevating the film. There are flaws too as some questions have not been answered thus taking cinematic liberties. The climax is brilliant.
The film starts in November 2016 where Shoaib Ansari, a 13 year old boy of the local MLA disappears mysteriously in Baramulla. Ridwaan Sayyed (Manav Kaul) is transferred to Baramulla as the DSP an month later and is joined by his wife Gulnaar (Bhasha Sumbli), daughter Noorie (Arista Mehta) and son Ayaan (Rohaan Singh). He takes up the case to find the missing boy. The house that they have been assigned is an old vintage one which is looked after by an old mute man Iqbal. While Ridwaan is busy and baffled with the disappearance of more kids in thin air with only a lock of hair left behind, his kids Noorie & Ayaan sense some eerie presence in the house. Are the two connected ? This forms the rest of the intriguing film.
Manav Kaul expresses beautifully through his
silences and body language as he has fewer dialogues. He portrays and
underplays his vulnerability in a brilliant manner. Bhasha Sumbli delivers
a solid performance. Arista Mehta who was last seen in WAR 2, delivers a
difficult performance with absolute ease. Rohaan Singh too is wonderful. Sanjay
Suri’s cameo appearance is lovely.
Cinematography & editing are the other
highlights of the film.
The film is not to be missed.
