An evening of classical music was organized recently by Rotary Club of Calcutta Sun City with Russia India Cultural Exchange and Gandhar Pancham at the Rotary Sadan.
The programme was
inaugurated by Senior Consul of the Russian Federation in Kolkata, Maxim
Aleshin, Hiralal Yadav, District Governor of Rotary 3291, and other
dignitaries.
Irina Malysheva sang a Russian song welcoming their New Year followed by Kathak performed by
Jhilik Bhowmik and Hindustani classical vocal by Bedamtika Mukherjee. The two
young performers enthralled the audience.
The highlight of
the evening was a Sitar and Sarod jugalbandi by Pandit Aashim Chowdhury on Sitar
and Pandit Dr. Ranjit Sengupta on the sarod. The audience was treated to a
scintillating duet and captivating ensemble.
The evening was a
mark of the deep cultural ties shared between India and Russia further
strengthening the longstanding bond among the countries. Kolkata has always
been the epicentre of this relationship, evident from the successful
program witnessed at Rotary Sadan.
Eva Gupta, a member
of Rotary Calcutta Sun City, coordinated the programme on behalf of the hosts.
