Stylish action flick high on patriotism

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi, Karan Singh Grover, Sanjeeda Sheikh

Rating: 2/5

Fighter has, like every other Sidharth Anand film post Anjaana Anjaani, the same plot: some Pakistani guy has a grudge against India and tries to do something big to ruin India. This guy from India saves the day; It’s been ten years since Bang Bang came out and people still rush to the theatres to watch the newest Siddharth Anand film in the theatre, despite it being the same formulaic film served up again and again. Here his latest offering goes down the “patriotic” route, playing with the sentiments of millions of people

Top IAF aviators come together in the face of imminent danger, to form Air Dragons. Fighter unfolds their camaraderie, brotherhood, and battles, internal and external.

Fighter is so blatantly a Top Gun remake that it even features some scenes from the iconic blockbuster. Yet it works! Siddharth Anand knows exactly what the audience will devour and serves it up with panache and style to rake in the expected moolah at the box office.

Not that the film is without its flaws. Fighter has bad and cringy dialogues, and the VFX is shoddy making the film look like a video game. The editing makes the entire film look like an ad for something or the other, and the Asian Paints product placement certainly doesn’t help. In a way, it’s also a big ad for the Indian Air Force, in short, military propaganda.

Siddharth Anand is not a good filmmaker. His films have just one motive - to earn money and that they do. Hrithik easily steals the show while Deepika looks like a million bucks. The couple’s sizzling chemistry is something to watch out for.

Fighter is the same old regular commercial stuff that we’ve come to expect from Siddharth Anand.
