Now in its 84th year Badamtala Ashar Sangha puja, one of south Kolkata’s big-ticket pujas, has the cycle of life, the various phases,

and the legacy which we leave behind as its theme. The brains behind the theme Debotosh Kar, has thus aptly titled it ‘Podanko’ which means footprints.

Established in 1939, Badamtala has always come up with unique themes over the years. While the Durga idol which is made of clay will be shown in a meditative posture, boats, landscapes, and miniature buildings in the pandal are adding value to the crowd-puller

“In this enormous cosmos, God Himself created the soul, which is both eternal and formless. He must therefore reside in a human body. Birth is the act of entering the body. At birth, a person's true self is exposed. Then time advances in accordance with its own laws. Body morphology varies. youth to old age, youth to adolescence, and adolescent to childhood. Through their deeds, people leave their mark on this world in a variety of ways. Time finally brings forth "death."

The final stage of leaving the mortal world is this rigorous procedure. In the end, the heat of the fire reduces the human body to ashes. The body, which has struggled mightily to survive, is quickly destroyed. After that, the body's final "footprint" on the earth disappears. All previous lives become memories, and those memories vanish. However, because the soul is eternal, it passes to God, the Creator. The absence of the "footprint," which serves as the final indication that a person has completely left their physical body, indicates their total departure.”
