Rating: 3*

Seeing Eddie Murphy in the last few releases that he had, made us miserable because of the kind of films he was churning on the OTT platforms or even theatres (Dr. Dolittle). But with Beverly Hills Cop- Axel F, he somewhat reinforces the faith in viewers that all is still not lost. A much-loved film, Beverly Hills Cop (1984) is a 40-year-long franchise with the last being in 1994 - 30 years ago. But here we have Eddie Murphy back as Axel Foley getting into undercover troubles.

The film starts with Axel stopping a robbery at a Red Wings game in Detroit, resulting in a destructive chase in a city snowplough (one of the highlights). His former partner in DPD Jeffrey Friedman (a wonderful Paul Reiser), a Chief of Police now, had submitted his retirement papers.

His estranged daughter Jane Saunders (Taylour Paige) a lawyer by profession, is nearly murdered by corrupt cops because of a case she is handling. On hearing about this from his friend, now a private detective, Billy Rosewood (good to see Judge Reinhold after a long time), who himself goes missing, Axel comes to Beverly Hills and meets his old friend John Taggort (an adorable John Ashton) who is now a Police Chief of Beverly Hills. Axel is partnered by a young detective Bobby Abbot (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and comes in contact with Captain Cade Grant (Kevin Bacon). Beverly Hills doesn’t remain the same again.

The film is light and breezy with the best part being the use of the original 1984 classic soundtrack that has been used. Director Mark Molloy talks about the generation gap but keeps the film moving refreshingly with lots of action. A sure treat for the fans of this franchise and Murphy.
