The poster release of Cine Verite Studios’ Bengali film ‘Nirob Mrityudando’ and the book release of ‘La Ejecucion Silenciosa’ the Spanish translation of the novel ‘The Silent Execution’ by Dr. Soumeek Chowdhuri on which the film is based was held at the Press Club, Kolkata on Saturday, June 22.

Among those who addressed the media on the occasion were forensic science experts Professor TK Bose and Professor and Professor Dipankar Guha Roy apart from Dr Soumeek Chowdhuri.

Dr. Chowdhuri is an authority on forensic science. An MBBS (Hons 1st medal) MD (Forensic medicine) he is a Scottish awardee (IAFM), Assistant Professor,  Dept of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Calcutta National Medical College, Kolkata. He got the Best Faculty Prize (II) IAFM 2019. A research collaborator Forensic-Nano-biotechnology, SEMO, USA, reviewer Springer Nature; British Medical Journal (BMJ), EJFS, Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine, JIAFM and National advisory board member JIAFM are his other achievements.

Dr. Chowdhuri stays in Kolkata and is the author of two other novels, 'Howz Murder for an Experiment' and 'The Devil's Surrogate'. His work combines real science with mystery, in the modern changing world of a third-world country trying to come in terms with the rest of the world. His writings were greatly influenced initially by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Agatha Christie and later by PD James and Ruth Rendell.

The story of ‘Nirob Mrityudando’ revolves around a young couple fighting their own battle amid a global pandemic. Tiyasha, works from home while her husband Aritra who travels for work struggle to balance their work schedules and taking care of their baby. Suddenly the baby falls sick and dies. The autopsy done by Dr. Ryan Ray throws up a diagnosis of ethylene glycol poisoning. Tiyasha is charged with murder on circumstantial evidence. The defense led by upcoming lawyer Aditi Bose with help from an expert witness tries to prove it to be a rare genetic metabolic disorder. The prosecution tries to establish it as a case of poisoning. With science on both sides will truth win or will the case end up as a silent execution?

The film stars Soumyadeb Bhattacharya, Mahua Dasgupta, Sangita Mukherjee, Rajarshi Mukherjee, Aishi Ray, and Sukanto Chakraborty. The story, script and direction is by Dr. Chowdhuri himself.
