A major disappointment for Inside Out fans

Cast: Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Grace Lu, Adele Exarchopoulos

Rating: 2.5/5

The target audience of Inside Out 2 this time is not kids but teenagers!. The emotions are oversimplified and as a result, the film isn’t as effective as it wants to be.

Teenager Riley’s mind headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.

The main problem with Inside Out 2 is that none of the characters (or emotions) are fleshed out properly, except maybe Anxiety (played by a fantastic Maya Hawke). What Joy can’t understand in the film is that people change and in the end, she does end up accepting that fact and everything is fine again! That’s not how life works, is it? The emotions are oversimplified and over-explained for the film to cater to its target audience, and nobody, not even the filmmaker, gets those emotions to coexist for a person to survive.

The film is basically just a remake of the first one. The journey of the emotions from the headquarters to the back of the mind is blatantly similar and makes the film boring.

The animation isn’t up to the mark when compared to Inside Out nor is the script. The actors have been changed with  Tony Hale and Liza Lapira taking over as Disgust and Fear respectively.

A major letdown for the fans of Inside Out.
