For the first time, a Marathi actor is doing a Bengali film 'Bhamini'. Umakant Patil, who has been part of films like 'Jawaan', 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', 'Cirkus', 'Sooryavanshi', 'Malang', 'Simbaa', and 'Extraction' (Netflix), will be acting in another regional language for the first time. The film will also see the first-time pairing of Tathagata Mukherjee and Priyanka Sarkar. Priyanka will be playing a Gomira dancer, the first Bengali heroine to do so.

Giving details about the film the director Dr Swarnayu Maitra revealed, “The main character of this crime thriller is Suhita, a professor (Priyanka). Baha, Munni, and Megha live in Suhita's house with her. The four are exponents of a special type of regional dance 'Gomira' apart from being involved in other social activities. Suddenly in their town, an illegal clinical trial of Human Papillomavirus starts, causing many deaths of innocent girls and women. Suhita and her team will fight against this malpractice with the help of her friend and colleague Kamal (Tathagata Mukherjee) and special police officer Indra (Umakant). Will Suhita be successful in her mission forms the rest of the story.” He added that shooting will commence very soon with the entire schedule being held in Balurghat. There are plans to dub the film in Marathi for the Marathi audience.

Umakant Patil said, “Of recent, I have been busy with web series like ‘Breaking News’ and ‘The Freelancer’. When I was approached for this Bengali film I jumped at the opportunity to do something different. I am both super excited and nervous about working with new people and speaking a new language. Till now I had only heard Bengali in films and ads but never spoke it. I am doing my best to learn the language to do justice to my role. I will be saying most of my dialogues in Hindu with a bit of Bengali," he added.

Sandip Bhattacharya and Chanda Karanji are in pivotal roles. Made under Ohmkar Films, the producer is Sandip Sarkar.
