Sid Malhotra shines as the warrior

Rating: 3*

Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Rashii Khanna, Disha Patani, Sunny Hinduja, Tanuj Virwani

Debutant director duo Sagar Ambre & Pushkar Ojha makes a mass entertainer with the in-flavour dose of patriotism thrown in. They effectively use the typical masala action, thus making Yodha a seeti-maar experience for the audience especially in the climax. And to top it all, the dashing Sidharth Malhotra nails his role of an action warrior to the T. Yes, the film gets a bit confusing till the interval point, but after that, everything falls into place but not without some twists and turns at crucial junctures. The dialogues are full of heroism and also relatable. Plus, this hijack drama is not the usual one.

The story starts in the year 2001. Arun Katyal (Sidharth Malhotra) resides in Delhi along with his wife Priyamvada (a strong Rashii Khanna) who is a secretary in the MoD and his paraplegic mother. Arun’s father Surender Katyal (Ronit Roy in a cameo) who started the Yodha task force died fighting in the field. Arun is also in the Yodha task force but is also quite unpopular due to not following protocols and orders although his operations were always successful. But one day on a flight providing security to a nuclear scientist Anuj Nair (S M Zaheer) the flight gets hijacked and forcefully lands at Amritsar airport. Despite the Yodha fighters reaching the airport and Arun sending smoke signals, Nair couldn’t be saved due to bureaucratic hindrances. As punishment by the government, the Yodha task force is dissolved which results in Arun and Priyamvada’s separation. A few years later Arun is on a flight again when another hijacking takes place.

Disha Patani as Laila springs a surprise despite having less screen time. Sunny Hinduja as Jalal comes into the forefront in the climax of the film.

Tanuj Virmani as Sameer Khan, a friend of Arun plays a supporting role. Kritika Bharadwaj essaying the role of an intern pilot Tanya performs very well.

Despite confusing you, Yodha still manages to engage and entertain.
