Two classic films Enter The Dragon and The Exorcist turn 50 this year. The 29th KIFF gave cineastes a chance to view these masterpieces, one a fight thriller, the other the ultimate in horror filmmaking.
Enter The
Dragon
Cast: Bruce Lee, John Saxon, Jim Kelly, Sek Kin,
Ahna Capri, Robert Wall, Betty Chung, Angela Mao Ying, Bolo Yeung
Enter the
Dragon, starring the legendary Bruce Lee turned 50 on July 26, was shown as a part of the “Restored
Classics” section.
Bruce Lee’s
choreography is excellent with the fight scenes being almost riveting. The
supporting cast was also great and they fought well. It is the same old revenge
plot but it has been made in such a way that it feels interesting. The final
fight sequence in the Hall of Mirrors is directed brilliantly.
Enter the Dragon
may not be everyone's cup of tea but those who like films of this kind will be
in for a thrilling ride.
The Exorcist
Cast: Ellen
Burstyn, Linda Blair, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow, Lee J Cobb, Kitty Winn, Jack
MacGowran, William O’Malley, Barton Heyman, Peter Masterson, Rudolf Schundler
The Exorcist turns 50 on the 26th of December. Friedkin’s direction
is simply excellent and the performances par excellence. The film is
“jump-scare” horror, it’s more psychologically horrifying and at times,
emotionally draining. The film is about a mother-daughter relationship and if
you look deeper into it, you will realize that it’s about a helpless mother and
her estranged daughter’s fragile relationship.
The horror
elements are excellent and the scary scenes are really well made and the dialogues well written. There has never
been or will be a horror film like The Exorcist.
