A delicious, chocolatey musical

Cast: Timothee Chalamet, Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant, Sally Hawkins, Matt Lucas, Mathew Bayton, Jim Carter, Rakhee Thakrar

Rating: 3.5/5

Wonka revolves around the origin of Willy Wonka (played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp earlier). Set in the mystical land which feels real due to the excellent production design makes it the best film to take the kids to this week.

Timothee Chalamet does a good job as the young Wonka under the deft direction of Paul King. The supporting cast is good with veterans like Rowan Atkinson and Olivia Colman giving good performances and Hugh Grant as an Oompa-loompa being the highlight. Keegan-Michael Key is easily the funniest of the lot.

Willy Wonka – chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time – is proof that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.

Wonka features some really well-choreographed musical sequences. The cinematography is excellent making the film look grand. However, the VFX could have been better and the film could have done with some betting editing as it slows down a little in the middle ruining the momentum.

Catch Wonka on the biggest screen with your kids and family, and you’ll be in for a pleasant surprise.
