Dr. Suryyani Deb, Assistant Professor at the department of Biotechnology, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB was associated in an undergraduate/postgraduate course on Materials in Medicine (SURG0120) at the London’s global university, University College London (UCL)  Dr Deb contributed in developing the content, lecturing, tutoring, and evaluating the said module. International students from different UCL programs [BSc Applied Medical Sciences, BSc Medical Innovation and Enterprise, MSci Applied Medical Sciences, MSci Medical Innovation and Enterprise, MBBS Medicine] at the Faculty of Medical Sciences participated in this module. As a part and success of this exercise, a teaching/research collaboration with MAKAUT, WB is under discussion.

Dr. Deb joined the Department of Biotechnology as UGC Assistant Professor in 2019. She is a Ph.D. holder from the Department of Biochemistry, the University of Calcutta in 2011. She is an expert in platelet biology and blood-nanoparticle interactions. She is the first to report most of the bare metallic nanoparticles can activate platelets functions. Her investigation on how haemostasis and platelet function are affected by nanoforms is highly appreciated by the scientific community. Her work has also been recognised with coverage and cover story in Nanomedicine. During her academic career, she spent research stays at the National Institute of Immunohaematology (NIIH), Mumbai, where she explored theranostics (combined approach with diagnosis and therapy) for arterial thrombosis. In Sweden, at Linkoping University, she investigated the effect of Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors on platelet function and platelet microparticle formation. She has returned to India in 2017 with the DST Young Scientist award to initiate and lead a research team and was granted with the BIRAC DBT project. She has published several scientific articles in high-impact journals with cover pages and cover stories and she has also been granted with US patent and WIPO. She is presently associated with several international collaborations in the UK (University of Cambridge), Sweden (LiU and Orebro), and the USA (Harvard University).
