Fast & Furious 9

The film starts in the year 1989 when a young Dominic Toretto’s father Jack Toretto, a car racer is killed in an accident. Dominic is also arrested and is sent to prison for assaulting a rival racer who was involved in his father’s accident. In jail Dominic realizes that his younger brother Jakob may have also been involved in their father’s death. Dominic makes a deal with Jakob that he should leave town and never return. Cut to present day – Dominic is leading a peaceful life in a remote place along with his wife Letty and son Brian when Roman Pearce, Tej Parker and Emmanuel come to meet them with the information that the plane carrying Cipher (Charlize Theron in a cameo) was attacked by rogue elements and crashed it in Montequinto. They go there only to find that Jakob was behind the crash and had brought Cipher to his boss, a rich Northern European psycho named Otto who wants to assemble the two halves of Ares which is a top-secret device that can control the security networks of every country on the planet. Jakob gets his hands on one half of Ares from Dominic and the gang and heads to Edinburgh for the other half of the Ares with Dominic and gang in tow. They also find out that their once deceased member Han Lue is also connected with Ares.

Chris Bridges and Tyrese Gibson make a splendid comedy team. Michelle Rodriguez weighs her scenes with emotional reality with Vin Diesel who holds the thing together with sheer intensity.

Director Justin Lin has made the film on a grand scale but is hindered with a loose script. The action is fantastic and one must applaud the crazy action in the first 20 minutes of the film. There is no action after the first 20 minutes and this is what tests your patience. But the second half has enough action to keep the viewers happy despite its excessive length of 143 minutes.

F9 just got bigger. A big-screen entertainment.
