Kolkata: Calling the West Bengal Chief Minister a fighter, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan said that "Mamata Banerjee is fighting all alone to save the democratic rights of the people. Bengal is the safest state in the country for women.”

The veteran actress was in Kolkata on Monday to campaign for TMC candidate Aroop Biswas in Tollygunge. She said: "Don’t hijack my democracy, democratic and religious rights. I represent the people."

"Bengal is the safest state for women. Those who are criticising Mamata by using offensive words, all I can say is ‘Shame! Shame’," she said, adding, “Mamata is fighting for the rights and respect of the people of Bengal, against all odds and atrocities”.

"I have so much love and respect for Mamataji, who is one single woman
fighting against all atrocities. Her head is broken, her leg is broken but they have
not been able to break her heart and determination to move ahead and
make Bengal one of the best places in the world,” said Jaya.

The Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav has extended support to
Mamata Banerjee in the polls.
