A lacklustre whodunit

Cast: Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ash Tandon, Ranveer Brar, Prabhleen Sandhu, Farhan Baqi, Kapil Redekar

Rating: 2*

Director Hansal Mehta disappoints big time with this murder mystery. The film is so lacklustre and flat and moves at a pace that by the time you finish watching the film, your interest level is at its lowest ebb. Even the way that they go about the case reminds one of the Indian detective serials like CID & Crime Patrol. The climax is also a shocker. The film is somewhat salvaged by Kareena Kapoor Khan's performance who underplays her part in a somewhat convincing manner.

After her son was killed by a delinquent, a grieving cop and mother Jaspreet Bhamra (Kareena) shifts base to Wycombe in Buckinghamshire despite knowing the fact that is will be a demotion posting from Detective Inspector (DI) to Detective Sergeant (DS), but she takes it up to deal with her trauma. On the day she joins, she is asked to join her senior DI Hardy Patel (Ash Tandon) on a missing child Ishpreet Kohli's case. The parents of the child Daljeet Kohli (a good Ranveer Brar-yes the chef) and mother Preeti Kohli (PrabhleenSandhu) inform the police that they had adopted Ishpreet. As per the CCTV clues, Ishpreet was last seen in Totteridge Rye Park, where he was found dead in a car that belonged to one Akram Khan (Farhan Baqi). Khan is arrested but Bhamra feels that the case is not as simple as it is made out to be.

The film written by Aseem Arora, Kashyap Kapoor, and Raghav Raj Kakker had all the ingredients of a twisted and fantastic whodunit, but unfortunately, it falls flat.

Prabhleen Sandhu, Kapil Redekar, Keith Allen (as Miller Jaspreet's senior), and Adwoa Akoto (DC Sharon Marks) leave a mark with their performances.

The film loses its charm by being dubbed in Hindi- it should have been released in English only. A film that leaves a lot to be desired.
