Massey kills and Dobriyal rocks with their performances

Cast: Vikrant Massey, Deepak Dobriyal, Darshan Jariwala, Akash Khurana

Rating: 3.5*

OTT: Netflix

Debutant director Aditya Nimbalkar makes a film that is not at all for the faint-hearted. It is gruesome in nature and despite not being as graphic to the core, the dialogues are extremely realistic, crude, and hard-hitting. The director gives you just a glimpse of the grotesque killings briefly and leaves you to that. What he does splendidly is extracting outstanding performances from Vikrant Massey who you will love to hate and Deepak Dobriyal who emotes with his silences and eyes. The film is based on the Nithari murders that had rocked Delhi in 2006 and Bodhan Roychaudhury's story shocks you. He paces the film beautifully which enhances the film even higher.

It's 2005. Prem Singh (Massey) works as a caretaker in a bungalow in Shahdara, Delhi which belongs to Balbir Singh Bassi (Akash Khurana) who stays in Karnal in Haryana and hardly comes to Delhi. Being alone and having nothing to do except watch a quiz programme,  Prem abducts children from nearby slums and kills them. The parents of these kids complain to sub-inspector Ram Charan Pandey (Dobriyal) based out of Rajiv Camp Police Station. Pandey doesn't pay much heed to them but when Prem tries to kidnap Pandey's daughter Vedu, he decides to pursue the case. In the meantime, an adult girl Chumki Ghosh who also goes missing was last spotted outside Bassi's bungalow. Pandey wants to arrest Prem, but it is not as easy for Pandey to do that.

Certain scenes remain etched in your mind- the investigation of Prem by Pandey. Brilliant. The other one is Pandey getting angry at Chumki's father Harisadhan.

Akash Khurana and Darshan Jariwala (DCP Jawahar Rastogi) lead the supporting cast ably. Subir Biswas as Harisadhan is excellent in a brief role and so are Raghav Kulra (young Prem) and Fareed Ahmed (Prem's uncle). Dinesh Vijan (producer Maddock Films) delivers another winner after Stree 2.

The film is strictly for adults and should remain that. See it for the two lead actors, especially Massey who is seen in a never-seen-before-avatar and also Dobriyal who speaks with his eyes.
