Ahead of the upcoming launch of the historical Hindi biographical drama, Sant Tukaram, Subodh Bhave—the “King of Biopics”--who plays the revered Marathi saint in Aditya Om’s epic, loved the collaboration with co-star Sheena Chohan, who plays his wife – Jeejabai (Awali).
Subodh Bhave said: “I found Sheena Chohan to be a very sincere-to-the-core actor on set. She knows her work and understands how important it is to be focused and sincere. She understands the director’s vision and delivers what is needed, whether it be an emotional scene, a light scene, or any type of scene… she delivered the role honestly and fully committed, giving her best.
To have a very honest, passionate, and sincere co-actor is a different joy, and that’s the enjoyment I got in working with Sheena in Sant Tukaram.”
Sheena for her part found her work with Subodh Bhave to be among the most rewarding of her career. She said: “I regard Subodh Sir as a profound inspiration and learned much from him. I admire his dedication, commitment, and ability to seamlessly embody characters. His technical expertise in creating nuances was magical. Working with him on set was a joy, as his artistic methods and collaborative spirit enhanced the creative process. I appreciate how he aligns technically, emotionally, and spiritually with his roles, making every moment on set memorable, especially when we shared genuine creative expressions together – at one point the emotions in the scene were so intense we both cried."
About her director, Aditya Om, Sheena said: "There's nothing I love more than deeply researching and collaborating with my director and co-actors to create characters... so this film was one of the most rewarding experiences because Aditya Om Sir went to such lengths to make sure every detail was accurate and sensitive. He helped me push myself to entirely new limits to understand who Avalai Jija Bai was, where she came from, what her motivations were, and what made her relationship with Sant Tukaram so special."
“Sant Tukaram” will be coming soon to a theatre near you.
