Saawan Jaley Bhaadon Jaley - Rain, Romance and RD…

The wait for the monsoons is usually a delicious mix of anticipation and longing. There is a romanticism associated with the monsoons which is mostly inexplicable. It’s just how that wait makes us feel. Difficult to express with words.

That's when Pancham helps…

When Pancham composes, it’s the romance of saawan coming alive inside our hearts, touching our souls with depth. Whether it's the saawan in our eyes which fill us or overwhelms us like in the Gulzar song from Musafir…Saawan Saawri Ankhiyan Choom Ke Phir Jaaye…or the Saawan and Bhaadon which burn within us, in Gulzar’s (yet again, who else) Bechara Dil Kya Kare…Pancham’s love affair with saawan is simply mesmerizing. Sometimes tears take the place of the rains and we lament (in the words of Gulzar yet once more) Ab Ke Na Saawan Barse…Ab Ke Baras Toh Barsengi Ankhiyaan…

Be it the wistful longing for a loved one in Saawan Ke Jhoole Padey, Tum Chale Aao, or the pathos-laden melancholy of missing a loved one in Mere Naina Saawan Bhaadon, Pancham’s way of expressing love remains unparalleled. They simply exist on a different planet from others. And sometimes that longing is not just for the loved one but indeed for the clouds to arrive, as one sings Phir Se Aaiyo Badra Bidesi…the wait for the monsoons can be just as romantic.

The arrival of the monsoon turns out to be even more fulfilling with Pancham in our hearts. Saawan Ka Mahina Aa Gayis sung with the most joyous of hearts. When the rains fall with their drops of romance and love, the magic is like fire to the heart…Sulag Sulag Jaaye Mann when Rimjhim Girey Saawan. The wonders of the Aggan make us experience and ultimately revel in the joys of the rain. Whether it is a pair of lovers romancing in their terrace with unbridled abandon in the Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein, or young lovers enjoying the Jaltarang when the raindrops fall like pearl droplets on a tin shade, Rumjhum Rumjhum, romance in the rains become even more romantic with Pancham on our lips and in our hearts. The rains can also make lovers wonder about the beauty of  Mausam Ki Yeh Kya Nayee Reet Hai. The different shades of Gehre Halke, Halke Gehre just enhancing romance all the time. And what better expression of the joys of getting drenched in the rains…Baadal Jo Barse Toh, Bheege Tum Bheege Hum…the magic of togetherness in the rains can never be matched. The gentle drops of rain falling on the lovers are aptly described in Barkha Ki Dekho Rang Raliyaan…Boondey Nahi Tum Pe Loota Rahi Kaliyaan…making the rains magically poetic.

Even when all is not happy and joyous in love, the romance of the rains tells its own little story…the Chhoti Si Kahani…with the raindrops can tell a tale that can invariably overwhelm one’s heart and fill up one’s eyes. Na Jaane Kyon…Jee Bhar Gaya, Na Jaane Kyon Aankh Bhar Gayi …

Lovers often come together in the magical monsoon rains and their meeting is often brimming with passion in beautiful complement with the Baadal which Yun Garajta Hai. The fear and excitement coupled inside young hearts are catalytic in their raging romance. The Jee can, and almost always does, incite a Darr in the hearts of young lovers, Ab Ke Saawan MeinRimjhim Rimjhim Dekho Baras Rahi Raat seems to perfectly sum up the passion felt by young lovers on a rainy night. Pancham’s monsoon musings as can be clearly seen, evoke a gamut of emotions in lovers. The joys of love make the lovers appreciate the magic of the monsoons even more as they admit Mausam Bada Suhana Hai

The monsoons, and the rains, usher in romance and a feeling of overwhelm like no other season. Whether one is getting drenched in the rain or watching them lash against our window panes as we sit with our steaming cups, the joy is unbridled…unparalleled…when Pancham completes the picture with his music. The soul has rarely been touched more beautifully.
